Since I have started this web design journey, I have increasingly found myself leaning more towards this practice of search engine optimisation or SEO. I find it very interesting, challenging and fast-paced. It changes so frequently. For example, Google changes so often that many credible websites create tools to measure the changes in the SERPs at any given time.
One of the cornerstones of good SEO is creating quality content. Creating quality content may mean different things to different people. Unfortunately, when it comes to SEO, most people think quality content only means that the content must contain multiple instances of your keywords within. In fact, most of the content is not really readable by a human reader. So what is quality content and how do you go about creating it? That’s what I hope to go into today.
Conduct Proper Keyword Research
You do still need to conduct keyword research in modern-day SEO. It’s still important, but not as important as it was maybe five years ago. The keywords you choose should be important to your business and drive traffic to it. You should also not only focus on head term keywords but look into long tail keywords as well to ensure that you can bring in as much traffic as possible.
Another consideration would be the user intent behind the keyword.
Create Personas to Understand Your Target Audience
Do you know who your ideal customers are? What questions are they looking to have answered? What keeps them up at night and how can your brand or product or service help them achieve their goals? One of the best ways to understand your audience is by going through a persona creation exercise.
Personas are archetypes of your ideal customers. You create them so that when you write or create content, you have an image of one person to which you are writing to. This will make your content feel more personal and on-point.
Use the language that they use so that you can connect with them better. Figure out what kinds of questions are important to them so that you can create content that they find useful and helpful.
Keep Your Website Content Fresh
Google has an algorithm that rewards websites for keeping their content fresh and updated. This means that the more frequently update your site, the better you will rank in the organic search engines because Google will think that your website is providing high quality content to visitors.
I know that sometimes it can be hard to keep coming up with ideas for content. One of the best ways you can do this is by looking at what kinds of content your competitors are churning out and creating better ones. Whenever you’re sitting down to create a new blog post, take a look at what your competitors are doing and then ask yourself how you can create even better content than them.
It is also important to ensure that your website’s content experience is kept cohesive. This means that the experience someone has from your brand remains the same regardless of the content you use.
